Hi Listers, My daughter has a sweater drying rack that one of the dowel rods broke. This unit is collapsible and has a total of 11 20 inch dowel rods for it's drying racks. One of the 3/8 inch rods broke in the middle. This particular rod is the main one that holds the unit together when erected. I first was going to try and replace the rod but the one in place is glued and brad nailed. I think I would do more damage to the unit trying to remove it. Right now I see only two choices for repairing this thing. The first would be to drill through the end of the rod and the nail to remove . This would have to be done at each end. The new rod would have to thread completely through one side. there is not enough play to insert one end at a time. Now my other choice would be to take a short piece of oak about 1/2 inch square. Round over the corners and drill a 7/16 inch hole through the length. Then slide it over the broken dowel rod glue the rod together and add more glue and slide the oak sleeve over the break. Any suggestions? Lenny http://www.geocities.com/lenny_mchugh/
