Thanks for the thought. Well this is um well I guess you'd call it a  
full basement. Basically I live in a split-level and the half the  
basement which has the crack is more above ground than the half that  
is at the lowest point. The crack has allowed water in twice now and  
we don't want  the carpet trashed again. I guess as much as my wife  
will hate it, I may open the wall which seems to offer better options  
than trying to dig the hole. She doesn't want to have to paint again  
and to be honest the wall was hell the first time around. I had to  
get a friend to do the mudding since the damned drywall was two  
different thicknesses and we had to tear out a lot of wall to find  
the exact crack location. I think now I'd have to remove less,  
probalby could put the same piece back in if I'm careful, and it  
woudn't require as much mud work.
The can of foam stuff does sound really slick, man I used that once  
to fill in around a door frame that the previous owner didn't install  
very well. Man oh what a mess, but wow, it sure did the job. grin
