If you are looking for a quick fix, buy a can of silicon spray.  Stay away from 
anything like WD 40 because that contains petroleum and it will destroy 
anything rubber.  

I used silicon spray for years on power windows in cars and it improved the 
sliding there as well.  You may have to repeat from time to time but it works.
