That's how I became an ASE certified mechanic. I use to tell people "Please
don't say I can't do it. I really don't have enough time right now to prove
you wrong..."

A chain saw can be a very dangerous machine, but not at all impossible for a
blind person. I've owned 4 over the years, still have 2 of them. As long as
you know your surroundings and pay attention the dangerous part isn't a factor.
Taking a tree down completely is a bit of a different story. The saw becomes
the last thing to worry about. If you ever get the chance to take down a big
pine tree, you'll find some of them resent having to fall over and will try to
take you out before the go... I've had them twist and turn before the pick a
place to land even after notching the trunk. But I've never had one be able to
over power me during a kick back, and that's why I say you have to pay
attention.

I have a scar on one of my fingers from a chain saw. That's where a sighted
friend caught me with his saw. And I knew a guy in New York that had over a
thousand stitches in his face where the saw came back and ripped his face to
shreds. But he was holding the saw over his head and trying to work like that.
I don't know if it was a case of kick back like they claimed or the limb was
too heavy for him and forced the saw back on him. Doesn't really matter the
case, he was in a bad situation to start with and all the warnings ended up
being true.

If you decide to get one, I don't recommend the electric ones. But I'd never
say forget about it either if you want one.

  Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Chain saws.

Almost always when I talk about chain saws sighted people around me kind of
friek out. They do the same when I talk about my table saw. I was at a
family Christmas party this week end and I started talking about the fact
that I have a table saw and a miter saw but I really would like to get a
circ saw. When they started going off about how that idea kind of bothered
them I finally stood my groung and smiled and said get over it. Now about
chain saws. I do not have a chain saw and I get the same story when I talk
about getting one. Every time I hear that I should not have a chain saw that
puts me that much closer to getting one.I think I am not alone in saying
that If you really want me to figure out some way to do some thing, Just
keep telling me I can't do it because "after all your blind you know."
