I also wear a flasher on my backpack's shoulder strap for same purposes. Standard boating rules say you are supposed to sound a horn before backing out of a slip, why not cars. But the idiots who aren't paying attension wouldn't do it. Suppose that's a reason for backup alarms, but they're too obnoxious and end up being just another intrusion.
