Well, it has been a few years, about 14-15 if i am counting right.
First I had to install a T in one of the heater hoses, I do not recall which
one. But just using some needle nose vice grips to pinch the hose on either
side of the cut, you only lose a few oz of coolant.
The filter system connected to that t, then there is an adapter to connect
the other line of the filter system to the radiator, or expansion tank,
where ever the pressure cap was.
Started the engine, and let it warm up, and then turned the heater on high.
I think the filter system connected to compressed air to run the pump, but
just turned on the pump, and it siphoned some of the coolant off, filtered
it, and returned it to the engine. Kind of like a by-pass filter system.
The filter system had a little valve you could open to put a little coolant
in a cup to do your ph test and such.
What I used was like this

but not as fancy, you know how things change over the years.
The one I used just did the filtering, not the draining or re-filling.

Hmmmm,
I have never heard of this system being used in the industry but it has been
a long time since I pulled a wrench in anger. How exactly does it hook up?
does it have its own onboard circulation pump or do you run the motor to
circulate the coolant through the filtration system?

Some shop do not even drain it, they run it through a filter system for
about 15 minutes, and add anti_freeze as needed to top off the system, and
other chemicals to get the ph right. I used this system in shop class, and
it was pretty slick, no where near as messy. Michael

Mark,

This is probably a better question for Bob but here is my two cents worth
from the corner.

The only way that you can drain that system is by removing the lower
radiator hose and stand by for the inevitable shower. There should be some
kind of a filler type cap or fitting on the top of the radiator core however
it will in no way resemble the RAD caps we are used to. Now instead of
having a traditional upper tank and pressure cap on the radiator there is an
expansion or overflow tank. When an engine overheats the coolant is forced
up a hose into this tank rather than running out on the ground. Finally
there should be a fitting on top of the thermostat housing to purge the air.
Honestly my friend I would probably take it to a trusted technician because
now days you can get hung for not disposing of coolant in the government
approved manner. Secondly pulling the hose doesn't always get all of the old
coolant out of the motor and finally if you don't get all of the air out of
the system it can create an air-lock that could cost you a motor. The
current state of the industry is to suction the old coolant out of the
system, replace the thermostat and refill with fresh coolant. I have done
this job using the lower hose and bucket routine but it is no fun and I do
not recommend it.
