What is the point of adding another layer, another device!

You will be adding another layer of complexity, another wall wart, another
device to draw electricity and the cost will be similar.

You could as well chain your current router to the wireless router and thereby
increase your wired capacity but do you need that?

A wireless router comes with a Web page built in, you just enter the IP address
into Internet Explorer or the browser of choice, you may set up a password and
you probably should if there are other homes near you then just set the options
as you like.

Maybe it is just because I am familiar with a wireless router as a single use
device but for my money they are pretty dependable and easy to use.

This is a question I asked earlier in the week. I had a friend tell me I
could hook some kind of transmitter up to my existing firewall slash router
and someone on the list mentioned a access point, so I looked it up and
found nothing to do with routers. More to do with cell phone towers, Ham
radio, repeater, reflectors and the likes. I guess the best thing to do,
  is call a computer shop.
