I have a new pre-primed steel door I plan on painting. There is an oval
window in the center of the door with plastic molding around it. What is the
best way to apply the paint? And, can the window molding be painted or
should I just tape around it?

For steel doors, we would recommend 100-percent acrylic latex exterior paint
so it will be able to expand and contract with the extreme heat that metal
doors will retain. Using a sprayer will achieve the best finish, and a
high-quality acrylic latex paint will be formulated with levelers to even
out the finish and help it lay down without adding any thinning agents.
Regarding the plastic molding, door manufacturers do not recommend painting
the molding, because if a darker color is used the molding will disfigure
and warp (darker colors will get hot). If you are painting, a light color
should be fine, but prime the molding first with an acrylic primer.
