I found that when I walked on a treadmill I didn't walk exactly straight because I couldn't see and the belt would move off to one side and grind against the frame until the edge started to fray and eventually started tearing. I ruined two treadmills this way. Doctors say that just plane walking is almost as effective as walking on a treadmill so I do my walking in the house. I walk around the living room, down the hall, into the bathroom, turn around, walk back up the hall and around the living room again. I do that for an hour each day.
