Don't ground the mast. Put a lightening arrester on top of it. If you ground the mast, you will inhibit the proper functioning of the antenna. Dan. There are obviously divided opinions on this but I believe that the mast should be grounded. Nothing will protect you against a direct hit but a near miss can get you too.
