My first guess is there is a wire loose or frayed. When you moved the light
around, the wire probably touched something metal and caused it to short out.

Try turning the light on and see if you can flip the breaker by moving it
again. I would suggest turning off the breaker again and taking the light
apart enough to see the wires.

If the wire, and we're going to have to find the hot wire, if it has come loose
from behind the screw or there is a bear spot where the insulation has rubbed
through, you've found the problem. You can tape over any bear spots. And make
sure where the wire goes behind the screw that there aren't strands that aren't
wound together with the rest of the wires.

Since moving the light cause the problem, I'd start there. Once you find the
problem there you can see what is wrong with the dimmer. Dimmers are a way to
feed current safely to ground so it's possible something burned out when the
light itself shorted out.

Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Electrical breaker and Dimmer

Okay Everyone, . Is there anyone out there who can help me with a weird
Dimmer switch problem? I have a light fixture hanging from the ceiling, on
a chain, about one foot long. The Fixture has a glass Globe about one foot
in diameter,. Yesterday I bumped the glass globe with a piece of plywood,.
It Didn't bump it very hard and it did not break the glass,. The light went
out and it wasn't the bulb, it was the breaker,. That is the first thing I
don't understand,. Why did the breaker pop? I would thihnk the bulb would
go bad if anything,. I reset the breaker and the light came on, but now the
dimmer switch won't work anymore,. I can push the round knob to turn the
light on and off, but when I turn the knob it just stays on bright.,
Anyone know what is going on here? I can't figure out why the breaker
kicked out, and I can't figure out why the Dimmer switch broke.

  Anyone have any ideas?

  Thanks, Tom Hodges
