Darrin, I have had the same digital thermostat for over 15 years now at least, it does not require batteries to run or maintain memory of how it is programmed. It operates from the low voltage (24) supplied from my air handler. It will shut down when brown-out voltage conditions exist and time delay restart when power is restored from loss of voltage or low voltage. This is basically a standard therm that is digital. You really might want to check with your service guy why you have what you have. I really think there is something wrong with what you have and how it operates. When my display goes blank, that is telling me the breaker tripped or a fuse is blown and there is no power to the unit in my basement. ...................bob
