Hi Claudia. I agree with Dale. There are professional worriers who try to make mountains out of mole hills. Things that have clocks in them such as VCRs, coffee makers, and ovens, should be left on so you won't have to keep resetting the clock. Why have a clock if you aren't going to keep it set? These things take less than 5 watts. Five watts amounts to 3.6 KWH per month. Consider that your water heater may use that much in about 30 minutes. The only other items that take standby power are those that come with remote controls such as TV sets and some stereo equipment. These things only take a couple of watts and aren't much to worry about. A computer and all its peripherals don't take any standby power. When they are off, they are off. I do use a plug strip on my computer so I can turn it on and off with only one switch. That's the only reason to use a plug strip.
