The crooked builder we dealt with over this house, originally had a tankless
water-heater in the house. We moved in in October and it was cold. The water
was a struggle.
Took forever to heat up, and a friend found the thermostat on it and turned it
up for us.
Continued to be and to get colder.
Builder came to look and said, oh, the breaker popped off.
Why we wondered, well, he explained, if you turn it up past this certain
temperature, the breaker automatically pops off.
We had him take it out and put in an electric water heater. He was probably
scamming us, charging us for that in the house, then putting in the other, and
so on, I really liked the idea of the tankless, but we couldn't have the
problems which came with it, at the time.
High stress, pregnant demanding wife, moving into a bad situation for us, and
just a bunch of junk.
I still wish it had worked.

It's electric. Just the one wire. We switched from propane to the electric
  instant tankless unit.
