I keep thinking about purchasing a click rule and maybe a new roto-matic. I really like my rotomatic but it is a little more time consuming to use than the new style. Mine was made at Overbrook School for the Blind near Philadelphia. It was invented there about 1950. A friend who was in school at that time helped to produce them. What I don't like about the original is that the threaded rod part is 12.5 inches long and only two extensions one 24 inches long and one 12 inches long. You can only use one extension at a time.It is a pain if you want to make a measurement a little over 12 inches you must spin the measuring block and lock nut all the way down then back the length for something close to 24 inches. I think that the new style has a 6 inch threaded rod and multiple extensions. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, October 20, 2009 8:31 PM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] have ya used the rotomatic?
`I have both, and aside from the difference in accuracy, what you're mainly going to use the thing for wil probably determine which you should buy. The click rule is accurate to 1/16 inch, whereas the rotomatic is accurac\te down to 1.64 inch and more if you like to estimate. If you're going to be measuring a lot, then the click rule is quicker and easier. If you need 1/64 accuracy or are going to use the tool like a measuring gauge say for cutting or drilling, then probably the rotomatic is what you want. both are very nice and well-thought-out tools though.
