The last time we had to call a plumber was when our kitchen sink was plugged
up. He snaked out the line and installed a Y connector just past the trap.
He explained that the next time I could take the plug out of the end of the
Y connector and run the snake down it bypassing the trap. He said I could
also run water down the drain while snaking. I did it last month and it
worked exactly the way he said it would. As soon as the end of the snake
cleared the clog the water drained away. The snake I have is very simple.
One end chucks up in the drill and the other end has that spring on the end.
No gears. The middle part is covered with some kind of rubbery plastic.

Regards.
