I have never heard of the mandatory replacement of ceiling tiles by an expiration date.
I always figured that as long as they seemed to be secure they were alright. Perhaps after 20 or so years they might need to be replaced but, by that time they probably have been repainted due to cigarette and kitchen fumes. (LOL) With the emphasis on non smoking and all that other stuff tiles should last a long, long time. I have also seen a lot of styrofoam ceiling tiles which do not seem to have an expiration date. I think someone is blowing smoke at you.
