THANKS EVERYONE Christopher the style.ccs info is good to know.
I just stumbled blindly into a working situation. I decided to delete all vestiges of blueprint and my sub-them and start from scratch and then the new grid.css/compressed.css/grid.png suddenly worked. I'm sure in my flailing about I knocked over some fragile container. lol As Minnesota Fats once said: "It's better to be LUCKY than GOOD" Thanks again to you both.
