BOINC on linux, for GUI people who have migrated from windows or mac, it's just hopeless. Install it from a package manger. Ah! Okay, I can do that. ...where did it go? How do I start it How do I make it start automatically? Where do I put things like cc_config.xml? Where are the project folders? No obvious way to tell. And what's up with the out of date versions?
Okay, give up, start over. Download the app from the BOINC web site to my desktop, and run it from there. Yes! It's running! How to upgrade without trashing tasks in progress? Impossible. Just finish all WIP, quit BOINC, download new BOINC to my desktop, and start over. I'm sure I have a lot of "wrong!" in what I said. But it's what I have experienced first hand. And still running BOINC from 8 linux desktops because of it.
