Tottenham v A Villa

  White Hart Lane
Saturday, 21 January
Kick-off: 1500 GMT
BBC Radio Five Live

---------------------------------
Tottenham's Ledley King continues to play through the pain barrier with a
persistent groin
problem while partner Michael Dawson has a shin injury. Spurs are without
Mido and Noureddine
Naybet, who are on African Nations Cup duty, and the suspended Paul Stalteri,
but Andy Reid is
fit again. Aston Villa have Gareth Barry back after suspension. Lee Hendrie
is set replace
Eirik Bakke, while Kevin Phillips will not be risked despite playing for the
reserves.

Tottenham defender Michael Dawson:
"We've had two disappointing results but last week we went out and played well
against
Liverpool and I felt we were unlucky. "It's a game we have to win and
hopefully our home form
can continue. "Villa will want to bounce back as well, from losing against
West Ham, so we
know what we're up against."

Aston Villa boss David O'Leary:
"We have a good record on the road but White Hart Lane is not a good ground for
us. "We are
playing against a good side who are on a different level to us. "Spurs have
some bought some
wonderful players. I fancied Tottenham to finish in the top five places in the
table at the
start of the season and my view has not changed."

    BIG-MATCH FACTS

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR aim to make Aston Villa their fifth Premiership scalp in a
row at White Hart
Lane, in order to close the four point gap between themselves and third-placed
Liverpool in
Martin Jol's 50th Premiership game at the helm since Jacques Santini's sudden
departure.

Spurs are enjoying their best ever performance since the Premier League came
into being -
Villa their worst since the top division was reduced to 20 clubs. The Londoners
are coming off
a 1-0 defeat at Liverpool, but have not lost back-to-back in 31 outings at this
level.

Spurs were rampant and put in a five-star performance in beating Aston Villa
5-1 in the
corresponding fixture last season. A double from Fredi Kanoute and a Ledley
King goal gave the
Londoners a 3-0 half time lead. A stunning 25 yard shot from Andy Reid added to
their tally
after Gareth Barry's spot kick. Stephen Kelly got the fifth. It leaves
Tottenham chasing a
fourth consecutive home victory over the Midlanders, to stretch their unbeaten
home League run
against them to six (three wins, two draws in the last five).

ASTON VILLA are playing their 99th Premiership match under David O'Leary.
They've won 33 in
his tenure and another victory would be their 200th in Premier League history.
Villa and Spurs
are the Premiership's draw specialists. Both have notched seven stalemates in
22 top flight
encounters this term. Middlesbrough have also drawn seven times, but from 21
starts.

While Tottenham can now concentrate on gaining a first ever Champions League
spot after defeat
to Leicester in the FA Cup, Villa's reward for the victory at Hull is a Fourth
Round tie, home
to League One Port Vale. A heavy defeat at White Hart Lane though, and
substantial home
victories for West Brom and Middlesbrough, could leave Villa just one place
outside the
relegation zone.

Villa managed only a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture in September. James Milner
put the home
side one-up after four minutes. Substitute Robbie Keane salvaged a point for
the visitors after
they squandered a lifeline through Jermain Defoe's missed penalty kick. The
only victory the
Villans have managed in the last nine Premiership visits to the Lane came on 15
April 2000 when
they were 2-4 victors courtesy of goals from Benito Carbone, Alan Wright and a
Dion Dublin
brace - one from the spot.
