OK, I see now. Now I know why there were empty <li>s. Do you plan to revise highlight plugin? If so, I've three request:
1) Option for choose out put the result only in text (exclude code, title, data). 2) While using the [(search ... words=false)] parameter, the "template.highlight" can't output the text it find (it output empty <li>s), no matter I search English or Chinese.
