Well, it didn't take as long as I thought. Here's a first stab at the disappearing slashes problem. Please give it a try everyone and report any problems. At some point I'll probably go through and do a more thorough assessment of how our slashes are being handled. I suspect there are more lines of code we can cut out or simplify. But this gives us pretty good functionality now--at least as far as I can tell! Best of all, I think I may finally actually have it figured out--what is happening... :)
