I'm inspired by all the funny book recommendations to ask for recommendations of my own. I love reading books set in the past. I hesitate to call them "historical fiction" because that conjures up images (to me) of books with buxom maidens being rescued/embraced/seduced by dashing princes/chiefs/pirates, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations for historical novels that aren't romances? I just finished "Girl With A Pearl Earring" and enjoyed it, and I really love the Clan of the Cave Bear series (the true name of the series escapes me at the moment). I suppose there is an element of romance in some of those, but it's not the main feature.
