I grew up earreading audiobooks. My favorites included The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Magical Land of Oz, the Winnie the Pooh stories, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, and Little House in the Big Woods. I must have listened to those at least a dozen times each. I remember falling asleep to books playing in my tape recorder even before I'd learned how to read (and then for many years after that).
I also remember being sick one year during the holidays (I think I was 4 or 5) and listening to the entire Lord of the Rings series including The Hobbit with my parents... I'm not sure I followed everything that was going on but I do remember being pretty darn scared of that dragon! My family drove cross country nearly every summer when I was a kid and one summer we had a copy of Little Women on audio that the whole family (even my dad) earread in the car together. It was really neat sharing a book with my whole family like that. I highly recommend the Harry Potter series on audio, too. Both the US reader (Jim Dale) and the UK reader (Stephen Fry) do amazing jobs, though I'm partial to Jim since I heard his first. I hear that Tim Curry does some amazing work as well with kids books- I've heard him read an adult book but he does the Series of Unfortunate Events books, too.
