I've only listened to a very few, twice on a long drive and twice while doing jigsaw puzzles. I'd assumed that my ability to concentrate, follow along, and remember the story would improve with practice, as I listened to more audiobooks. Interesting that you found the reverse.
Well, I've found that since I've been writing reviews for every book I listen to, or read, I remember them much better. I'm thinking as I read, in the back of my mind, about what I'll be saying in my review, and that helps me focus. And then when I write the review, it's almost as if I'm studying the book for a quiz at school. I love bookcrossing, but here we only have opportunities to write reviews for books we're shelving, not library books. So I write my reviews on GoodReads.com. There's also a good group there where we talk about writing reviews; it's called More than Just a Rating. Share books, share joy! Audio Books Posted by: "Sherri" [email protected] sharalsbooks Date: Wed Aug 22, 2012 2:12 am ((PDT)) How many audiobook customers do we have here? I subscribe to Audible and also check out audiobooks from my local library. I'm finding that here, lately, I am having a very difficult time focusing on my audiobooks and retaining the stories. I started listening to audiobooks as a way to take advantage of new to me authors or specific genres (thrillers on audio seem to be my favorite) while not neglecting my massive TBR pile. But now, I am finding that my attention wanders more with audiobooks. I started the newest book in Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series. I listened to the last book in 2011 and for the life of me cannot remember how it ended! Naturally, there are references to past events in the new book and I'm going "Huh? What is she talking about?" Does anyone here experience this with audiobooks and how do you deal with it? Sherri Currently reading KILLER SUMMER by Lynda Curnyn and listening to PRETTY IN PLAID by Jen Lancaster Up Next: THE 9TH JUDGMENT by James Patterson What am I babbling about?
