I was thinking maybe the 12 pulse per 360° is the correct one, I bought some with 24 pulses (and a longer shaft length) and that caused the odd horizontal scrolling when rotating, almost like a button press. This made me think the daughter board might have a problem, so I reconnected the original part and as before, the scroll works properly on rotation, but of course the physically broken push button did not.
