The purpose of this list is to arrange meetings of the Boston Perl Mongers,
and to discuss issues of general interest to Perl programmers located in
Boston.

These topics would be considered on-topic:

1. Announcements of meetings; offers to host meetings; requests for rides
to or from meetings; discussion about past or future meetings.

2. Announcements of or discussion about other events relevant to Perl, such
as a conference, tutorial, or book-signing. These need not be local to
Boston, but there should be a reasonable likelihood that someone from
the Boston area would want to attend.

3. Ideas for things other than meetings that Boston.pm could do;
   suggestions for the Boston.pm website.

These topics would be questionable for Boston-pm; you can post them here, but
there are more appropriate forums:

1. Technical questions about Perl and Perl programming; most technical
questions are not specific to one geographic area. Other resources for
technical questions include PerlMonks.org, the comp.lang.perl.*
   newsgroups, and various mailing lists.

2. Questions about various kinds and brands of Internet access. Most
people on the list already have Internet access, and don't need to be
subjected to yet another discussion of which model or company is best.

These topics would be considered off-topic for Boston-pm:

1. Meta-discussion about other forums, such as the Perl newsgroups or the
   Perl6 mailing lists.

2. Language advocacy. Perl advocacy would be redundant, and advocacy for
other languages would not be of general interest.

3. Flames.

4. Spam.

Any topics not covered above, I probably just haven't thought of. They can
be added to a category as they come up.

Regarding RSVPs:

If you're planning to attend a meeting, please remember to RSVP
(probably by private email). If you're hosting a meeting, please remind
   people to RSVP.

I will try to administer these guidelines by sending private email when I
feel someone has posted inappropriately, and by sending an email to the
list when I want a specific thread to die out.
