yapc has so far (3 conferences) been around mid june. it is held for 3
days. i dunno a deadline but sooner is better of course. that is why it
is being pushed forward now. the dates aren't set and will probably be
flexible somewhat depending on the site's schedule restrictions.

last year at mcgill, 2 industrious perl hackers almost ran the whole
show by themselves. i doubt we could do that so any help would be
useful. we could probably get the staff to run it but liasons and
resource connections are desireable. net connections in the conference
rooms would be cool. a terminal/net room just for connectivity (can
laptops be plugged in?) is almost a requirement for this
crowd. publicity on campus would be good. if enough mit students want to
go, then it would be easier to get resources (read $$) from the tute or
some groups/departments.

RJB> Approximately how many participants are you expecting? (I've never
RJB> been to a YAPC, but I'd be likely to attend if one were held in the
  RJB> Boston area.)

the average attendance is around 300. it is very low key in many ways
and a major goal is keeping costs and registration fees down. they have
charged about $75-100 per attendee so far and dorm room rentals were
around $20 or so a night. this conference is aimed at the grassroots and
student community who can't afford to pay $1000 + $150 a day for the
perl conference.

RJB> Also, does boston.pm have a mailing list archive?

i think so but i doubt there is much to glean from it. go to
boston.pm.org to sign up on this list so we can communicate better. your
posts have to be hand approved as you are not subscribed.

thanx,
