There is a subsystem that lots of ISP's use called DRAC. I think it's Dynamic Relay Authorization Control (or something like that). When you connect to your ISP, you normally check first to see if you have any mail via pop. The pop3 server (typically qpopper) has hooks to talk to dracd which maintains a relay list so you can then use your ISP's SMTP server to send. I used to use an ISP which allowed me to send for 20 minutes after a pop attempt or a last send (whichever came last). -- -Time flies like the wind. Fruit flies like a banana.
