Hello Kelly and Adam,
If you go into the program you are using for copying music on the
laptop, or pc, you should find the options and within there you
should be able to see the file formats that the program supports.
You will want to make sure that the format that is needed for the
braillenote is checked.
I would imagine, that there should also be a option to change the
songs copied already, but I am not sure.
If so, then once this is done, then can just copy that entire
folder that is on the laptop on to a storage card and insert it
into the braillenote and you would be good to go.
I am not sure of the copying procedure, and renameing the
extension, so, if someone else has better information maybe they
will be better suited to help.

Not sure if this fits here but we are not sure how to get music
onto
my son's braillenote Mpower. We currently use itunes for
storeage on
the laptop but I know that the music is in AAC format does anyone
know how or if we can change the files to MP3 format without
haviing
to reinstall all of our music? We also purchase books from
Audible
those I think can just be transfered through a CF card or thumb
drive?
Thank you for your help,

Hi,
Recently I began using the record feature on the mPower. I have
used it
primarily to record the handbell music from rehearsal so I have
something to
practice with at home. I do notice that the files take up a lot
of
space. I
then move them to the sd card. If I chose to move them to the
computer what
program would I use to play the wav files? I have not used wav
before so
need some information.

Hi Joseph and Lysander,
In refference to the idea that the purpose of the recorder is
only
for
notes, I would bet that Jonathan would tell you that the
recorder
is for
what ever you want it for. I've heard him say that it'd even be
great if you
could edit audio files with the BN. So the "scope" is only as
small or large
as your willing to allow it to be.
In terms of licensing, there are freeware encoders and licensed
encoders.
This isn't my area of expertise, but my Iriver was very
inexpensive and if
they can put an encoder in there, it's possible for low or no
cost
in the
BN.
I have heard, again, that when DAISY comes to the BN that
encoding
on the
fly will be closer.
This, I think, is in large part about space. It'd be much
better
to take up
only 1 meg a minute instead of 5 megs a minute for high quality
recordings.
Imagine the space saved when a student records class lectures
with
a BN if
the BN could record to mp3.
Additionally, who wants to shuffle a bunch of .wav files to a
pc,
convert
and reshuffle.
This is all academic because it isn't possible yet, but I'd like
to hope
that we're headed in that direction.

This is Joseph. There is a program out there called CDEx. It
can
convert
between mp3 and .wav files. So, for example, if you wisi to
convert a note
that has been recorded on the BN to an mp3 file, you can simply
transfer the
file to a computer and convert it that way. Recording software
that runs on
the computer these days allows you to convert between multiple
file formats.

The main issue is one of licensing. Since the BN is a
commercial
product,
they'd have to license rights to use the encoder. Why do that,
when you can
record in WAV and compress it to MP3 on a computer for free? The
BN is a
notetaker, not a recording studio. The recording feature is
meant
for taking
notes. I wish people would keep things in scope.

Hi folks,
It has been suggested that recording to mp3 or encoding on the
fly is
not possible, or that conversion from .wav to .mp3 would be
better.
Assuming that you accept the limitations that come with mp3
encoding,
encoding on the fly isn't a problem at all. I own a tiny Iriver
mp3
player which records mp3 files on the fly. It's probably got
one
tenth
or less the power of the BN and it runs on one AA battery. So
encoding
on the fly isn't a problem.
I have heard that this capability may come when DAISY support is
implemented. Get out your check books. :-)

Au,
That does make sense. Maybe it's much better to stick with wav.

It isnt' really possible to record in mp3, as you would be
compressing on
the fly as it were. What would be nice is a wav to mp3
converter,
but on the
other hand it would keep needing to be updated because the
codecs
are
constantly being worked on, and then you'd get into licensing
costs for it,
not to mention that then people will be clammering for AAC and
OG
support
which all have the same inherrant problems as MP3, etc.

I'd love to be able to record in mp3. I also think it would be
nice to
have a program that could zip and unzip things. I'm not sure if
that's
possible, but as I don't use a pc, it would be nice.

hi fellow braillenote fans. I was on the phone with Dean
Jackson
the other
day and was extolling the virtues of adding a financial
transaction
component to keysoft.
Now is the time we should submit our desires for such a program,
just a
simple checkbook utility like charles crawford's talking
checkbook program.
So, I am officially casting my vote for our illustrious
marketing
manager's
ears, OK MOSEN!
