Oh, come on, America runs on bribes!
(evil grin)
Actually, I don't blame you one bit.

Absolutely not!
I would like to buy one of the little ones they came out with in 1988
actually.

If you get your Optacon fixed, do you want to sell it?
(hopeful)

Interestingly I went to Staples last Thursday and the guy was really
breaking his neck trying to sell me a 2 gb s. d. card. I explained the
situation and got 2 256 cards. He wanted to know why we couldn't use the
2
gb cards and I simply said his guess was as good as mine.
Anyway, I am having a totally rotten day thus far as my Optacon may have

been fried by lightning.
Anyway need to go box it and theVoice Note up.

Hi Tiffany and list,

I had the same problem you did, getting an SD card error after following
all
the directions to the letter. I downloaded and ran the product key
successfully, prepared the card for upgrading, and downloaded the nk.bin

file. I tried going through the whole thing twice with the same result.

The only way I was able to successfully upgrade our two BrailleNotes was
to
go out and buy a new SD card. The only one Office Max had was 512MB.
The
problem card was also 512MB, but I had used it successfully in the past
to
upgrade to 7.0 and then to 7.01. I was worried that another 512MB card
might give the same error, but this was fortunately not the case.

As a sidenote, I got in a hurry after purchasing the SD card, which was
a
very bad thing! I checked it on the PC and noticed it was formatted
FAT, so
I figured that was good enough, copied the nk.bin file to the card, and
attempted to start the upgrade. At this point, my BrailleNote
completely
and utterly died, no speech, no Braille, no beeps or anything. I could
hear
the funeral dirge playing in my head as I dialed tech support. Then,
Rich
saved the day by suggesting a service reset, and this brought the BN
back to
life. I then ran the tool to prepare the card on the BN, re-copied the
nk.bin file, and successfully ran the upgrade. All is well with both
BN's,
and 7.2 appears to be a very nice upgrade, albeit a bit buggy in places.

Overall, it was quite a wake-up call when things didn't work, but it all

came out in the wash.

Sarah

Hi Don,

Unfortunately, I do not have another SD card that is smaller than 512
MB.
I only have the one card. What is interesting is that I installed 7.0
with
this card so I am not sure why I am having diffulty now.
  Thanks,
  Tiffany

  Hi Tiffany,

I don't suppose you happen to have another sd card lying around
somewhere do
you?

It's my understanding that the updating process itself is controlled
within
windows ce which is why there is a limit on the maximum size of sd card
you
can
use for the upgrade. Also, I think that installer is rather particular
about
the specific cards you attempt to upgrade from, and it wouldn't surprise
me
if your
card is what's giving the problem.

It seems to me I recall someone trying to upgrade to either 7.0 or 7.1
and
having the same problem you are now having. They solved it by using a
different
card.

It sounds like you are doing everything just as you should.

Hello,
I started first by moving the files I had on this SD card to another
drive.
I then prepared the card and copied the product key and the NK.bin file
to
the
card and tried running the installation. I got the Product key to go no
problem, but when it said to hold the J K and reset down I do that and
then
I get the
message SD Card Error. I thought ok, maybe I need the zipped file. So, I

prepared the card again and recopied the files and once again the
product
key
went fine, but after the reset with J k I still get SD Card Error. So, I

have no clue what I am doing wrong.
Thanks for all your help,
Tiffany

Also, is the SD card formatted to FAT-16? This was mentioned on the list
earlier today by someone from HW, Maurice I think.

Take care and happy upgrading.
