Tiffany,
That is because text documents like MS Word files are pure text. Inputing
braille characters cannot be done, slthough there is a work around. At the
KeyWord options, switch the document format toKeyWord braille. Create a
document and edit the text using braille characters. Then press space with s
(Ctlr+s). When the document name appears, press backspace with x (I forgot
the QT command) until you see Microsoft Word format. Name the document using
grade 1 braille (essentially same as computer braille) and press enter. Then
you can transfer that doc file to a USB flash drive *the correct term for
thumb drive).

Subject: [Braillenote] Keyword and file types

Hello All,

I am hoping someone out here or someone from Humanware can address this
problem. I have a friend who I was helping today with her BN. She is a
student and wanted to change the file type to a Word document so she can
save to her thumb drive and then put it in a computer when she needs to.
However, this is what happened and where the problem lies. We switched the
setting to save as a Word Document, then went to keyword to test it out.
When we created a file it said this is a text document and computer braille
is required. Why would anyone want to write in computer braille while
typing a document? Furthermore, we tried to change it to grade 2 braille
and it said you are editing a text document and computer braille can only
be used for this.
Can someone please clarify and help.

So is there a way to create a document on the BN in keyword and then open
and modify the file on a computer without changing the file type every time?
If there is a way can someone pleas let me know so I can help my friend.

Thank you for your assistance,
Tiffany Manosh
