I got a sandisk thumb drive and it doesn't work at all in my BN. It just
says "please wait" and nothing else happends.
Any suggestions?

USB devices are supported by virtually all computer manufactured after 2000.
Yes, I think BrailleNote will handle it just fine.  
If it does not work, try Sandisk thumb
drives.
