Hi Sharon and Scot;
My theory even is true with the Braille writer and the slate. I was tought
the brailler first and I am horrible with a slate because I have to turn
every letter around in my mind before writing it.

Scot;
Since a BN is the same size whether it has an 18 or 32 cell display, I would
think you should be able to change the display. Give HW a call and check
out the price. You might be better off to save up and just get a 32 cell
M-power. I know it is expensive, but you need to look at the future of
upgrades for the bN, only one, and the future of the M-power, many. The
M-power will give you a lot more memory, recording ability, dazy, games and
who knows what else is to come. I sure am glad I got my transplant when I
did. Before you make your move, I would talk it out with friends and maybe
HW.
Good luck on your choice.

Terry Powers

Well I didn't start learning Braille until I was in year ten because they
didn't think I would be able to do it but at that stage I didn't have any
other choice. I have really bad arthritis in my fingers so they thought that
would effect my reading ability but when I started I flew through it.

So maybe your right Terry because I learnt touch typing in year four but

didn't start typing Braille until year eleven.

Here is a good compairison. I learned Braille in second grade and what
ever you learn first usually is what you are best at. Sheron is better
at typing and I feal I am better at brailling, especially since the qt
is a smaller keyboard than a regular typewriter.

Hi, I've had a hands on demonstration of the MPower in July and loved
it. I
think I would go for a QT because I can type quicker on that and when
I'm
away from home I normally would have to deal with allot of emails so I
think
it would be easier on a QT. Also I help teach Braille and I use the
Braille
note as my cheat sheet. When someone asks me a sign and I'm not sure
about
it I type it into the Braille note and then use the display to show me
what
it is in Braille and I couldn't do this if I used a BT. After reading
all
about the MPower on this list I really want it but I have to save up the

money and convince my parents that it is worth the money and since I
only
just got a new PK I don't think it will be happening to soon. However I
do
have a job interview this week and depends on how that goes, I maybe
able to
justify it if I get the job because part of the job is taking minutes
for
meetings. I will be able to do this with the PK and tape recorder but it

could be allot quicker on the QT keyboard.

Well that's enough from me for now,

Gotta love the BrailleNote mPower BT!
I love mine.
I should use it for email, but the amount I get I'm not sure it would
handel
it. I get around 100 messages a day.
But I had a classic BT, then sold it, went to the opposition product,
PacMate for about 6 months and returned to an mPower BT!
It's great.
I've seen the QT and which ever one you get you will like it I'm sure.

Hi, I started off with a voice note and when my Braille reading skills
got
better I brought a second hand Braille note with a QT keyboard. Now I
have
sold my voice note and brought myself a PK. So now I am improving my
Braille
typing skills. I love my PK because of how light it is and the daisy
book
player which because my Braille note is a classic it doesn't have this.
I
still have my Braille note as a backup and if I am going away from home
and
need something I can connect to the internet easily with I have it.

Well that's my history of how I came to have the machine I do have. And
when
I get a job and can save the money I will look into transplanting my
Classic
to an MPower.

Hi Rob, and welcome to the list.

Well, personally, I opted for the BrailleNote. There is certainly
nothing
wrong with the VoiceNote, but I do like having both the speech and
Braille
options made available to me. The Braille especially comes in handy for
crowded places where one doesn't have to try to hear the speech, or for
those meetings when one suddenly realizes they need to take some quick
notes
as it saves having to dig out the headphones and all. I do also have a
VoiceNote that work purchased for me; and, if I need to write down
customer
info, I do/and believe I'm actually supposed to use that unit. But,
otherwise, as it seems much less awkward in
meetings and the like for me, I use my own BrailleNote.

I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Rob and I've become
quite interested in the BrailleNote. Anyway, on to
business. Which unit do you have, a VoiceNote or
BrailleNote, and why did you choose this? I like the
VoiceNote for it's price point.
