Having the battery soldered into the circuit instead of being end-user replaceable by having spring contacts makes for a more reliable electrical connection. When the battery requires replacing it is a good idea to examine the Braille display for wear, tear and grunge that will gum up the works either now or in time and clean the display if need be.
