Hello Peter and list,

That's exactly what I did but I had other concerns which rated higher than a
replaceable battery. The Voice Sense has its shortcomings as well and it
depends on what one considers shortcomings. I will say it has more going
for it than shortcomings though. Please feel free to write me privately if
you want my observations. The M-power is a fine notetaker with much going
for it! It will be interesting to see how these notetakers stay up to date
as technology changes. Which notetaker will survive these massive changes
through the years. Even more to the point, it is hard to keep up with
changes with my PC so this will be an ongoing concern. I think companies
would get the message louder and clearer if people would simply do their
research, buy whatever they think would better suit their needs and go on
with life rather than take it out on the list. If people stop buying an
M-power for whatever reason, this will show up on the company's bottom line.
Changes will be made believe me if the bottom line isn't good! I fully
realize too some received their product through state services for the blind
and there wasn't much choice involved.

As for me, I'll probably have one, hopefully two BN units to go on sale once
all files are removed from them. This certainly would be a good way to get
an extra unit just in case one needs to be shipped off for service. My
M-power hasn't given me any trouble other than having to do both standard
and service resets. It has been a good unit. I may attempt to upgrade my
classic BN since it has a problem with its braille display and can't see
fixing it just to keep it as a classic. I'm checking in on that! I was
fortunate to be able to purchase my equipment myself thus far but I won't be
able to do so forever. I therefore am moving on!

Thanks again Peter for your post.

Jim Aldrich

Subject: battery points

Hi Keith.
I don't know how to replace batteries and I feel very comfortable
getting a professional to do it!
I'm sure if you read my email literally and didn't put your own
interpretation into it, you'll find I said nothing about "never
criticising"!
Yes if you pay for your Braille Note of course I agree you can do
whatever you like with it, oh, provided you accept the
consequences and not look for someone to take out your
frustrations or inadequacies on!
Terri I think the idea of a redesign for the battery in the
Braille Note is indeed a grand idea, however, that wasn't what
was being so negatively criticised!
Those of you who like so much what the Braille Sense does and the
company that makes it stands for, please buy it and vote with
your democratic cheque book! credit card or green backs!! I'll
always use a carot rather than a stick!
