Hi John and All, You know, I hadn't tried your way of emptying the trash before. But, when doing so just now, tried several times each with several messages, it worked great with no email lost except those in the trash that I meant to delete. This sure works better than using the backspace with dots 2 3 5 6 to delete each message one by one.

Go into keymail and type R for read messages. Space until you are at the trash folder. Instead of hitting enter and going into the trash folder, type backspace with dots 2-3-5-6. It will ask if you want to delete the trash folder. Type yes. Saying yes will not delete the folder. After typing yes, it will ask if you want to delete all messages. Type yes. Like I said, this is the way I've been doing it and I haven't lost any email from my inbox. Good luck and happy deleting.
