No Susie, close the case whilst charging the BN. It was a mistake, and I
apologized for that. The BN will never explode, promise, unless there was
some kind of fault in the circuitry, maybe.

Thank you for telling me. I will keep the case open from now on.

James and all, think about it. You close the case, right? That means
that
air cannot be exposed to the BrailleNote. This is especially important
when
charging the unit, as the electricity would heat up the battery, hence
the
transformer getting fairly warm during the fast charging process. If
that
heat couldn't escape, it could just build up and up in the BrailleNote,
and
eventually the unit would be so hot that smoke may be generated and, in
worst cases, the unit could even explode and start a fire. So this is
why I
recommend to you all never to leave units, including a BrailleNote,
closed
in their cases, especially units that don't have a fan or places where
heat
can escape, to which the BrailleNote is a good example. If any of you
disagree or have further comments or queries, please let me know as I'd
be
very interested, but as I have got a GCSE in physics, I should know all
about how electricity works and what would happen in these situations.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris,
Do you risk getting dust etc into the braille display if you leave
the
case open? Just curious

That's probably because there's no air going through to the

I'm not saying that closing the case would overheat the unit, and
that
overheating can freeze the unit, but there is certainly that
possibility. If I was charging my mPower, I'd make sure that it's
well
ventilated, which includes leaving the case open.

Exactly, and that is the odd part. Open (the cover of the case that
is)
it does fine, but when the cover is closed and secured it (the BN)
freezes.
Have a great day,
Alex

Alex, when you're referring to open and close, do you mean when
the BN's in
its case, or am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

Subject: [Braillenote] odd behavior with ac adapter
Hi all,
I just found something extremely odd: when the BN is open, it
does fine
with the AC adapter. When it is closed, it freezes when I plug
it in and
must be reset. I even held down the spacebar and plugged it in,
but it
worked fine. Can anyone duplicate? Thanks.
Have a great day,
Alex
