There is a difference between reading French with the English British tables
and reading French with the English American tables. The British allow some
contractions but the Americans don't.
I can only speak for how the BN should behave using the American tables. If
a document has been formatted correctly, a person reading an occasional word
in French should see the dot 4 in front of the accented letter and you
should not need to switch reading grades. If the document was brailled for
NLS, then everything should appear correct.

Hello:
I do not have an answer to your language question; but, I can respond to
your other questions. .
The next version of KeySoft will include an upgrade to the operating
system.
I believe that the mysterious new product will not be a replacement for
the BrailleNote, they have given no indication of that. But, Humanware
does not tell it's secrets.
I am a very satisfied BrailleNote user, not to say that I wouldn't make
some changes, but overall I'm a happy camper.
Best of luck with your notetaker decision.
