Dear Jose and list:

Not sure if the BrailleNote Classic your counselor got you is an
18 or 32, BT or QT style keyboard.

If you can get funding for it, you could do a transplant of the
Braille display into an Mpower and get a free Concise Oxford
Dictionary, American or British edition, free.

This would get you the latest software and features like a CF, SD
as well as PC/MCIA card slot, much more RAM and the ability to
read R. F. B. and D. books when R. F. B. and D. releases the User
Authorization Keys for the Mpower.

I suppose you could upgrade the software, but you need to phone
Humanware and ask what the cost is. Call:

800 722-3393 and use option 3 I think it is for Customer Service.
You will need the machine's serial number when you phone them.

Probably you also want to send the unit in for inspection and
cleaning of the Braille display as if the machine was in some
center somewhere, it may have been heavily used and often by
people not used to using such a device.

Does this Classic now belong to you personally or to your state
commission for the blind?

You want to be sure you own it as if you say transplant it and
the commission actually owns it, you may find they eventually
want it back and you're out the cost of your upgrades.

Some food for thought.
