You would need a scanner with built-in OCR to use it with the BrailleNote. These are not all that common, but Humanware does make one called the Scan-R. It sends the scanned data out either a serial port or USB I forget which. Contact your friendly local Humanware dealer for availability and pricing on this unit. Kurzweil used to make, but I think they discontinued, the Reading Edge or was it Reading Advantage. It too was a self contained scanner with built-in OCR. It was fairly expensive in its time but worked well I am told. In general, scanners with on-board OCR are usually not updated to advancements in OCR techniques as often as programs for the PC.
