Kerri and list,

You will not lose a KeySoft upgrade from performing a 123/SDF or 456/JKL Reset
with KeySoft 5.0 and later, especially on the mPower
units running 6.1 and later. The reason for this is because the upgrade is now
burned into the ROM (Read-Only Memory) image as
compared to before where it was stored in the Flash Disk. So, there are no
worries there.

As for the 456/JKL Reset, it will clear the registry, Bluetooth settings,
memory, and a few other things but no data will be lost,
only ones on the KeySoft System disk.

As for the 123/SDF Reset, it is to be used for installing Ad-ons such as the
Sendero GPS, Way To Go, Oxford Concise Dictionary and
Thesaurus and Nemeth Tutorial. All of these ad-ons will be held after this type
of upgrade is performed but will return after a
no-key reset or a C3 C4 Reset on the PK.

So, there is nothing to worry about. The Information that you read/were told
pertained to versions of KeySoft prior to 5.1.

Also, there will be no lost of data when the unit runs flat as there is with
certain other note takers.

Subject: [Braillenote] question about resetsquestion about ram and resets

Hey list,
I have been meaning to ask this for a while but just now got
around to it.
In the manual, it says that if you do a 1-2-3 or 4-5-6 reset on a
bt, sdf or jkl on a qt, you will lose any unsaved work, of
course, but also that you will lose any rom upgrades of keysoft,
and I'm not sure about this, but I thought I read that you could
lose your ram content. However, I hear people on list saying
that you should do a 1-2-3 or 4-5-6 reset for things like
clearing virtual memory and also fixing other issues, and there
seems to be no worries about backing up files beforehand or about
losing a later upgrade.
I have ks 7.5.28 now that 28 has come out, but when I got my new
braillenote bt upgraded from the classic to the M-power, it came
with 7.5.20. So, does this mean that I will only lose 28 since
it originally came with 20? In other words, when my classic was
working, I had 4.02, but they upgraded the hardware to an
M-power, so I am assuming the chips and everything were also
upgraded, so I guess I started from scratch except for my
display, is this right? So if I had to do one of those resets
other than just the reset button, would I only lose 28, which is
not a big deal to me.
Sorry for the long and drawn out question. I wanted to get all
of the details for you.
Thanks,
Kerri
