Hi list,
As the subject says, this is off-topic, so if you don't have time or are offended by such messages, stop here.
Dear Jan,
I was a jfw user for a very very long time, jfw 7 in the past few months, and I had this exact problem. I understand if you can't switch screen readers, but jfw is very very good at locking up, and I've no clue what to do to stop it from locking up, and that's why I switched to window-eyes. I pay $39 a month on my copy, that's the only way I could have ever afforded it. Otherwise, I used to go insane and commit the same huge sin you do, by shutting it off by holding the on button till it shut down. Bad idea, but you can't help it, it's the only thing that will shut it down when you can't see to read and click to shut it down. So, in answer to your question, I have not found a way to fix it, but I have found an alternative.

Hope that helps.
Kerri
