Not really bad news! But just unexpected.

Dear James and list:

Well I suppose you could look around for someone else to clean the display
of your BrailleNote and replace the battery, but your results will depend
upon how familiar they are with working with a whole bunch of little
precision parts as found in the Braille display. If they do something that
causes damage to your BrailleNote you could be out many times the cost of
sending it to Humanware in the first place.

Are the prices you quoted normal? Well they seem to be with Humanware.

You mentioned about the cost of an upgrade. Well that is really a separate
thing from hardware maintenance like cleaning of the display and replacing
the battery. So is an extended warranty, I take it you are referring to the
Hardware Maintenance Agreement Humanware offers.

You also mentioned about parts. Well usually when you send your unit in for
cleaning and battery replacement no additional parts are required.

Yes, owning a Braille PDA and keeping its display clean and in good working
order and the software up-to-date can get expensive.

Sorry for the bad news.
