Hi Rose: You are right that it is important for some of us, and I'd say most of us to be able to use Word documents on the BN. As I have stated, repeatedly, I have no problem accessing Word XP or 2003 documents on the BN, although I haven't accessed a lot of stuff that has complicated formatting such as tables. I wish people would be more specific about the problems they are having, and, I would suggest they take them up with HW Technical Support.
The fact that part of the word issue is a Microsoft problem is NOT something I or anyone else made up. I heard it straight from someone at Humanware during a presentation in July of 2007. That is, while there are things Humanware needs to do regarding word support, Microsoft has a part to play too. I would certainly hope that support for word 2007 and better support for word documents will be part of the next upgrade as it has been asked for for quite some time. But again, Humanware doesn't have total control over this. Keep a couple of things in mind. You say that other notetakers handle Word documents without any problem. My question to you would be, do any of them support Word 2007? Remember that the Pacmate is using the actual Office Mobile applications with JAWS, so naturally, it will handle word documents much better than the Braillenote. As for the Braille Sense and Braille Plus, I cannot say what their word processing capabilities are so I'd have to take you and others at your word that these devices handle word documents better than the Braille Note. If word document access is that important to you, then you are free to choose other options.
