I am forwarding this message because I think it might well help yu and
others.  It helped me when I was having problems connecting at home.  I
changed my settings as described below and I no longer get that unsecured
network which a neighbor in this building has.  I think this might be your
problem.

Hi, I have had the same problem with a wireless network near my house.  I
have fixed it by changing the settings in wireless options.  I'm not sure
what change fixed it now but here is my
settings:

notify when new networks are available? no Automatically connect to non
preferred networks? no types of networks to access? access points only.

Of course these need to be changed if you take your machine away from home
and want to search for wireless networks.  But hopefully it will fix your
problem at home.
