Blake,
I do respect your comments and think you have some good points but would
suggest that nobody is actually slandering HW. Whilst everyone appreciates
the freedom of their BN and the hard work that has gone into making it what
it is today, we do pay considerably for it and so we are customers, not
"people receiving handouts" from "good people"!
For me, my notetaker world goes further back than Humanware and I will never
forget the excitement I had when being presented with my first Braille 'n
Speak; but over the years my husband and I have put thousands of pounds
through both the suppliers of B & S and Humanware because we have used their
products, not only for personal use, but extensively for work. Truly, we,
as customers, have benefitted but have paid a high price for our products
and, as such, with others too, we are entitled to good service and
first-class equipment.
I have just ordered an Apex, feeling that my best possible opportunity has
arisen to give up my BN PK. This is still in pretty good working order and
is so lightweight and quiet that I am very torn; but I don't want it to sit
around on the shelf and so decided to trade it in for the later model. Now,
if next week I hear that a more advanced PK is available, like someone else
said on list, I'm going to be pretty mad that I couldn't have been told
sooner.
Well, that's my take on it all and I too am looking forward to knowing more
about this new piece of equipment which, I feel pretty sure, will use some
of the old technical programming of the BN as it now stands. If the product
is totally new then we are in for a good surprise!

Subject: [Braillenote] In defence of hw
Hi all:
I want to comment on the most recent posts about this
mystery device that Hw is now presumably manufacturing.
I want you to think about where you would be today, had
you not ever heard of the braillenote, and never heard in
your life of Humanware. For me, anyrate, I would be
goodness only knows where, probably failing to keep up
with my increasing level of note-taking and editing that
is required of me. True, the computer helps with emails,
checking with internet newspapers etc, but you cannot
carry a computer in one hand or over your shoulder,
unfortunately. This, thereupon, is where my thoughts are
based.
You also need to know that if Humanware is manufacturing
this product for us, then, assuming it gets smoothly up
off the ground, and tests the way it should, we, the
customer, will be presented with the opertunity, and a
detailed analysis of this product before the rest of the
blind world, because we are connected, by way of this
list and external email to Hw staff members. We cannot
slaneder Hw like you have been. We have to respect the
fact that what will come. I now remind you of a song by a
very famous writer. The line I will focus your attention
to is:
What will be will be. The future is not ours to see.
EXACTLY!
Regards,
Blake.
