Hi Carol and All,
I, too, am looking forward to knowing more about this teaser
product from HW. Although, as with others, it wouldn't surprise
me at all if it were the VoiceNote version of the Apex.
I can't say I blame you for trading in your PK for an Apex. I
almost wish I had done the same before mine had its problems.
But, then, on the other hand, I really didn't want to give up
such a small device with a Braille display. In fact, I've
purchased a used one from someone on another one of the blindness
lists, so we'll see how that goes when I received the unit.
I'm still debating on what to do with the nonworking PK I
currently own. Sure wish HW would let us know if they intend to
upgrade the PK. I do, though, plan to take advantage of the
trade in and send in my mPower to upgrade to the Apex, doing so
early this week before the trade in values go down.
My first note taker was the Braille 'n Speak as well. I used the
classic unit and then the 640 one, but never did upgrade to a
Braille 'n Speak with a Braille display. These things kind of
tend to run together for me as remembering the time, but I think
my first Braille display was the PM 20 one, and then I moved from
there to the PK and mPower. But, no matter which display I
purchased first, I now find it really hard to use only Braille,
such as with my VoiceSense, when I had absolutely no problem
using my Braille 'n Speak for the ten years or so before
purchasing any Braille display.

Blake,
I do respect your comments and think you have some good points
but would
suggest that nobody is actually slandering HW. Whilst everyone
appreciates
the freedom of their BN and the hard work that has gone into
making it what
it is today, we do pay considerably for it and so we are
customers, not
"people receiving handouts" from "good people"!
For me, my notetaker world goes further back than Humanware and I
will never
forget the excitement I had when being presented with my first
Braille 'n
Speak; but over the years my husband and I have put thousands of
pounds
through both the suppliers of B & S and Humanware because we have
used their
products, not only for personal use, but extensively for work.
Truly, we,
as customers, have benefitted but have paid a high price for our
products
and, as such, with others too, we are entitled to good service
and
first-class equipment.
I have just ordered an Apex, feeling that my best possible
opportunity has
arisen to give up my BN PK. This is still in pretty good working
order and
is so lightweight and quiet that I am very torn; but I don't
want it to sit
around on the shelf and so decided to trade it in for the later
model. Now,
if next week I hear that a more advanced PK is available, like
someone else
said on list, I'm going to be pretty mad that I couldn't have
been told
sooner.
Well, that's my take on it all and I too am looking forward to
knowing more
about this new piece of equipment which, I feel pretty sure, will
use some
of the old technical programming of the BN as it now stands. If
the product
is totally new then we are in for a good surprise!
