What is meant by
"the entire software package for the Apex"?
Do you mean on the iPhone or on the Apex?

I finally got it. I called apple and they couldn't help. I spoke to
someone at humanware tech support that suggested that I reinstall the entire
software package for the apex. I did this and it works now. I can read
what is on the display and write with the keyboard. Only problem now is if
I make a mistake I can't backspace to correct it and since I am using the
apex to type the message the on screen keyboard on the iphone isn't there.
