Hi,
First, the printer problem: Try this:
1. Turn off the Apex.
2. Connect the USB cable (that's the proper term for it) to the
Apex that comes with the printer.
3. Turn on the Apex.
If it still says, "device not recognized," then we need to do
something else. Before we go on, could you ask someone to tell
you what the HP printer model is?
For embossing:
Yes, the 25-lin port is the old style serial port. As you've
pointed out, using Bluetooth would be the better option. Ask the
computer store (whatever the name is) for a Bluetooth to parallel
adapter. Then from the printer setup list on the Apex, you
should set the port to Bluetooth.
It has been a while since I printed something from my unit; but
if I remember right, to print to a Bluetooth printer, one must
find the Bluetooth adapter from the Apex, pair it, set the port
to Bluetooth and you are ready to go (at least).
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: [Braillenote] setting up to print
Hello, I am studying the sections of the manual having to do with
setting up to print.
So far, just hooking up to my hp print printer through one of the
3 lpt serial ports on back has met with device not recognized and
not ready as I recall.
And I looked and I think it it is set for hp printers by default.
All that aside though, I am totally blind and not in a town with
public transport and although we are blessed that my wife is
partially sighted and allowed to drive a golf-cart around our
small town, the computer supply store is still out of our reach
and I have a ride from my pastor today to pick up supplies to set
up with my old Braille blazer printer.
I have read so far that you can, through a work around, hook to
the old parallel port on this printer, or you can use the
Bluetooth transceiver.
Should I just refer to this section and hope that the computer
store/fix it shop know what I am talking about, or can you folks
give me a quick/down and dirty answer which I can present to them
as what I need to get this done, in this one trip?
Looking at the back of my Braille blazer which I bought years
ago, at least 10 years ago, I see the old parallel port which my
keynote x-l had hooked to on the old printers of the 80s and 90s.
and then I see a female port, which I think is 25 pen. It's the
old long female ports.
What should I get or ask for?
I am leaning toward the bluetooth transeaver.
Thanks,
Matt
